Part II : Where and How to Obtain Scans

f you followed us through Part I, you should have a real good idea of how to manage your collection of scans efficiently.  Now onto the fun stuff!  Lets talk about LEECHING.  Leeching is a common term which means "taking from someone else".  There are lots of different ways to leech scans from lots of different sources.  We will take a look at using newsgroup readers to leech from newsgroups, ways to leech through the use of the mIRC client and related programs, using ICQ to contact other collectors, and lastly surfing the web using both online and offline methods.

Part II Summary

This part of the resource deals with showing the best sources to find scans and the best techniques to use to obtain them.  The individual sections illustrate:

• Section 2.1 will show you how rich of a source newsgroups are, the best ways to collect from newsgroups, and special notes for AOL newsgroup users.

• Section 2.2 shows you new and exciting ways to obtain scans and information from other collectors by use of the mIRC Client, the Autoget Plugin, and a FTP Client.

• Section 2.3 touches on the use of Mirabilis ICQ.

• Section 2.4 talks about collecting scans from the web, recommends techniques, and notes some points of caution.
