1.4.3.3 CRC Cache.

Using the CRC Cache will save you time, lots of it.  I highly recommend taking advantage of the feature.  The CRC Cache is best described by the author of the program in the help file,

"CRC calculation requires the most time during the checking process because the whole file must be read by the program byte by byte. If you have set up CRC-cache, the calculated CRCs along with other information are saved in a file (in the CRC cache directory) which is used during the next check process to speed up. When a collection is checked next time, the program first tries to get CRC from cache. If the information is found, the time consuming CRC calculation is avoided."

Setting up the CRC Cache is quite simple.  First go to the Options pulldown menu on the main interface of Picture Checker, and choose "CRC Cache/Virtual Directory".

Chose here to set up the CRC Cache

This will open a new window, "CRC Cache/Virtual Directory".  We are only concerned with the top half of this window in this lesson.  Make sure to check enable CRC Cache.  Browse to the directory where you would like to store the .crc data files.  Then hit ok.

Immediately check all collections (including their CRC).  This might take a while if you have an extensive collection, but it will be the last time you have to sit back and wait.  Once, this is done check all collections again.  The process is now a hundred times faster.
