1.4.2 Setup Instructions.

To run Pic check, double click piccheck.exe from the windows explorer or one of your shortcuts.  Picture Checker will open and the options menu will immediately appear, as shown.

Now is the time to configure the program to work for you, so put on your thinking cap and lets get to it.  Before you fill in any of the fields in the options window, you will need to create some folders if you have not already done so.

Create four new folders:

1. Folder where your csv files will be stored (i.e. -=CSV=-).

2. Folder where your collection reports (.txt files) will be stored (i.e. -=CSV Results=-).

3. Folder where your scan collections will be stored  (i.e. -=Asian Scans=-).

4. Folder where you will download your scans and csv files before they are sorted (i.e. -=Downloads=-).

Now lets configure the first tab in the options window, COLLECTION DEFAULTS TAB.  This tab is very important because it will be used over and over again when you set up your collections in Pic check.  It is essential to get this information right.

In the first field (List Source (CSV-File) Directory), enter (or browse to) the folder where your csv files will be stored.  In the second field (Collection directory), enter (or browse to) the root folder where all of your scan collection folders will reside.  Under this second field are two "check mark" boxes.

If you check the first box (Look on all Fixed Drives when entering a new Collection), the program will search for folders c\-=Asian Scans=- d\-=Asian Scans=- e\ -=Asian Scans=-.  If you have multiple hard drives with scans in the same directory structure on both hard drives, make sure to check this.  Otherwise disregard.

If you check the second box (During Check include Wrong Files Subdirectory), it will check your "slush" (extra stuff) directory when setting up new collections.  If you plan on reading and making use of the advanced tasks section of this section, you must check this box.  Otherwise, leave unchecked.

In the third and final field (Output File Directory), enter the folder where you want csv result files stored.

Collection Defaults Tab

Once you have input all the necessary information into these fields, it is time to move to the next tab, CSV FILES.  First, switch the selection in the CSV File Viewer field from windows standard to Program (notepad.exe).  This is important to prevent spreadsheet applications associated with .csv files from corrupting your csv.   Then in the CSV File Prefixes field enter "ocp_" then hit add.  Repeat the process adding "ocp_!".  This is important because it will not automatically read OCP (Oriental CSV Project) csv without it.  You can also do this by adding "edzone_" to make use of automatic detection of edzone csv.

CSV Files Tab

Now we are ready for the TXT FILES tab.  This tab only requires one simple adjustment.  In the TXT File Viewer field, chose Program (notepad.exe).

TXT Files Tab

Onto the SUMMARY tab. Check the "Save Summary Info when checking all Collections" box.  This will save the results when you generate a summary of all collections.  Do not check the "Append to existing File" unless you want following summaries added to your original instead of simply overwriting.  Then chose the path of where to save the summary.

SUMMARY Tab

Simply disregard the two remaining tabs (DOWNLOAD and MISCELLANEOUS).   They will be described in the Advanced Tasks sections.

One last thing before you are done with setup.  This is very important.  You want to make sure the following two boxes below are always unchecked.

For more information on why CRC values are used, see Section 1.2 Why Collect the Right Way.

You are now ready to begin setting up collection profiles.
